Sandra Jean Allen
November 20, 1939 – April 11, 2025
Sandra Jean Allen, affectionately known as “Nana,” passed away peacefully at her home in Midland, Texas, on April 11, 2025, surrounded by the family she so fiercely loved. She was 85 years old and left this world with grace, courage, and—true to form—a little sass.
Born on November 20, 1939, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Sandy was the daughter of Frank Kelt and Bessie Eunice Hubbard. She married the love of her life, Calvin Allen, on March 8, 1959, in Portales. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work—a legacy that continues to bloom in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Sandy’s family tree is a beautiful, sprawling one, and her pride in it was evident every time she introduced someone as “mine.” She is survived by her mother Bess Jones as well as her children who include Daughter Stellyce Tune with children Lauren (husband Jarett) Shoemaker, and their children Addison and Landon, and Caylen Tune, and his children Cayden and Trinity. Son Michael (wife, Ginger) Allen with children Erin (husband, Robert) White and her children Brewer and Beau; Paige (husband, Justin) Carver and her children Emmeline and Everritt. Son Devin (wife, Meranda) Allen with their children Mandie (husband, Jim) Hale children Reagan, Sadie, Cooper, and Creed. Cade Allen, Chyenne (husband, Jonathan) Shaw and their child Truitt and Corbin Allen. Son Bryan Allen with his children Ashley (husband, Mason) Bell and their child Lane; Alyssa (husband Kolten) Crawford and their children Kipton and Kasyn. Her brother Keith (wife, Marietta) Kelt and their children Whitney (husband Chad) Osborn and their child Rad; and Landon Kelt.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Kelt, her beloved husband, Calvin Allen, and her Son-In-Law Wes Tune.
Sandy was the rock of her family—equal parts fire and grace. She told you what she thought, not always what you wanted to hear. Her favorite phrase was, “I rebuke that!”—and she said it with a smile that meant business. But behind every sharp wit was a heart that loved deeply, prayed constantly, and forgave freely.
She had a green thumb and a gift for gathering. Whether it was planting flowers or crafting (which she often declared, “I can do that!”), she brought life and joy to every moment—especially while playing with her grandbabies. Sandy also shared a special bond with her “Young and the Breastless” friends—a brave circle of women who supported one another through cancer with grit, laughter, and faith.
Among her favorite memories were a month-long trip to Italy, a recent adventure to Utah, countless dates with her aunts (who were more like sisters—Aunt Nez, Aunt Jean, Aunt Ann, and Aunt Shirley), and any moment when her home was filled with the noise of children, laughter, and love.
A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland, Texas, with a graveside service to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A reception will be held afterward at 2905 Shanks Drive, Midland, Texas 79705.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the hospice team who loved Sandy so well.
As Sandy often reminded us: “God is good, all the time.” Her faith never wavered, and we take comfort in knowing she heard these words when she arrived home “Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
