Sandra J. (Dilley) Maupin

Sandy J. (Dilley) Maupin, 77, passed away September 14, 2026.  The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. at the Rosewood Chapel at Nalley-Pickle & Welch, and the Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. that same day. On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., a Celebration of Life will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri. Private interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.

Sandy was born on May 7, 1949, in Springfield, Missouri to parents Jesse Wilbur Dilley and Jean Evelyn Craig Dilley.  She moved away from Springfield to attend college at Southwest Baptist University (then Southwest Baptist College) where she met her husband, Ronald H. Maupin.  They married on August 16, 1970, in Springfield, Missouri and settled in St. Louis, Missouri once Sandy graduated from University of Missouri in Columbia (and Ron graduated with his Master’s degree).  Sandy and Ron had two children while living in St. Louis, Shonda Kay (Maupin) Folsom and (Brennan) Scot Maupin.

Sandy and Ron moved to Olathe, Kansas in the summer of 1981 and lived there until the summer of 1999.  Sandy worked as an elementary art resource teacher at several schools in the Olathe School District, including Havencroft, Indian Creek, Central, and others.  Ron and Sandy were active in Vista Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, and Blue Valley Baptist Church during their time in Olathe.  Sandy was also active in the Junior Service League, P.E.O., and community theatre.  Sandy got her Master’s in Education Administration from Emporia State University, as well.

In 1999 Ron had the opportunity to go on staff at Southwest Baptist University and the couple moved to Bolivar, Missouri.  Sandy had already been active as a trustee’s wife at Southwest Baptist University, and she continued to assist as the CFO’s wife, helping with trustee meetings, campus beautification, and anything then first lady of the university, Judy Taylor, Judy Dutile, or Janet Julin, asked her to help with.  She also worked for the Bolivar Independent School District as an elementary art teacher until her retirement in 2011.  Sandy and Ron also served as the unofficial dorm parents for the students of Maupin Hall.  They invited the Men of Maupin to their house for events throughout each year and assisted the Residential Director with activities for them on campus.

In 2016, Sandy and Ron moved down to Big Spring, Texas to cut the commute time to at least one set of grandchildren’s sports and other life events.  Sandy and Ron celebrated their 50^th anniversary in Big Spring in 2020 through a pandemic Zoom party.  Although Sandy enjoyed church and community activities with her family, her dementia limited her ability to be as active in Big Spring as she had been before those years.

She is survived by loving husband of 56 years, Ronald Maupin; children, Shonda Folsom (Clinton) and Brennan Scot Maupin; grandchildren, Zane Folsom, Zachary Folsom, and Amelia Maupin; brother, James Dilley (Marilyn); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.  She was preceded in death by parents, Jesse Wilbur and Jean Evelyn (Craig) Dilley; siblings, John Dilley, Patricia Geiszler, Arleen Niemi, and Joan Delzell.
