Samuel Kenneth Sliger, Sr., age 89, entered eternal peace on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Big Spring, TX, 28 days before he turned 90. Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home- Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring.
He was born on October 21, 1936, in Johnson County, Fillmore, Oklahoma to Willie Denby Sliger and May Sliger (Glover). Sam was given his name after his grandfather, Samuel K. Sliger. His name has been past on to three of his great-grandsons, who also have his first name. He used to speak and reminisce about growing up on a farm, and their two mules, Kate and Ader. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1954 and came to New Mexico soon after because farming did not suit him.
Sam was hired on with Ferguson Construction where he was given opportunities and learn how to weld. He worked for them for 20+ yrs before going to work for Mid-America, after Sam retired as a pipeline welder, he picked up woodworking. He shared many memories with the family through woodworking. He made 2 cradles for his grandchildren, which are still past down in the family. He also really enjoyed watching all old western movies and shows. He was a Dallas Cowboy fan during the Dandy Don Meredith and Bob Lily days.
Sam is survived by his children, Samuel Kenneth Sliger, Jr. (Jan), Tim T. Sliger, and Lori Lynn Tafoya (James); grandchildren, Susan Seymor (Mitch), Tyler Tafoya (Brittany), Amber Tafoya (Jon), and Lyndi Sliger; Brother-in-law, Danny Cobb (Myrna) of Lubbock; Sister-in-law, Ginger Lanye (DeWayne) of Hobbs; 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Lynda (Cobb) Sliger; his parents; and siblings.
