Samuel Hudson (Sam) Snoddy passed away January 15, 2016. The family will be accepting guests from 7:00pm-9:00pm on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.Sam was born to Fred and Dixie (Daniel) Snoddy on May 23, 1925 in Gilliam, Missouri. He graduated from Gilliam High School in 1943 and entered the Marine Corps shortly afterwards. Upon completion of his basic training in California, he was directed to the South Pacific Theater of war. Sam participated in four major island invasions, including Tinian, Saipan, and Okinawa. He was wounded during the invasion of Saipan as he served in a machine gun platoon of Company L, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division. During the last twenty years, Sam greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of attending numerous Marine reunions. One of his joys was visiting his Marine buddies in their homes and hosting them in his.Upon his return to civilian life, he married Patricia Noth in July, 1950. Patricia passed away in 1980, being survived by their children, Samuel Mark Snowdy of Denver, Colorado and Michelle Ann Ventris of Edmond, Oklahoma. In 1990, Sam married Mary Tom Roper. He is survived by her, his two children, three step children, Don Roper of Houston, Pam Freni of Bradenton, Florida, and Janie Roper of Ocala, Florida and three grandchildren, Samantha Snowdy of Denver, Emily Johnson of Dallas, and Daniel Johnson of Edmond, OK.Sam had a long career as a petroleum land man in the Permian Basin. He was employed by Great Western Drilling Company and Shell Oil Company, after which he became an independent land man. As part of his career, he served as the president of the Permian Basin Landmen’s Association from 1965-1966.Sam was an avid fisherman and golfer, but as he found later in life, his real love was antiquing. He was a partner in Packrat Antiques located in Midland. Sam was also a passionate traveler, having been to Central America, Europe, South America, Russia, Turkey, New Zealand, and Fiji in the last two decades. One of his life-long endeavors was to have traveled to all fifty states within the United States, which he accomplished.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Midland,911 West Texas, Midland, Texas 79701, or another charity of choice. ,
