Jim-My husband and I met you briefly at the King and I some time ago when you and Ruth were having dinner. Ruth was the first person to greet me at the Allison Cancer Center in 2009 when I made my first visit to start chemotherapy. I cannot tell you how much Ruth's kindness, enthusiasm, and physical beauty impacted my attitude toward my situation. More than anything, she gave me hope because she was so beautiful, so energetic and so interested in everyone else. I am so sorry for your loss. She was an exceptional individual and we will all miss her.

Jim, my dear friend. I remember when you came home from that trip to Arizona, called me and said, I'm getting married. I simply couldn't believe it! I reminded you that you'd swore off women, at least for awhile, and I'll never forget what you said. You sighed, and said, Well, that's true, but I didn't count on Ruth. Listening to the stories at the memorial made me wish I'd had a chance to know her better. I missed something. I'm so grateful you had a chance to know and love this lovely woman. She helped you heal, and from the stories, you helped her heal, too. You have much to be grateful for, my dear, and you are surrounded by such love and support from your friends and family. I count myself among those lucky ones. Call if I can help. Much love to you and your's.

Ruth was kind and gracious and selfless. After her surgery, she worked in the Cancer Center as a volunteer cheering people up and giving many of them 'hope'. She was the light of hope for one of our closest friends who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had a similar surgery as Ruth. I am convinced she lived longer just knowing Ruth.
