Ruth Esther (Winbush) Akins, 75, of Midland, formerly of Big Spring, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 29, 2008, in Midland. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Big Spring with Pastor W.C. Kenan, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Big Spring.She was born on March 17, 1933, in Anson, Texas and married Thomas Earl Akins on January 22, 1960 in Colorado City, Texas. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1986.Ruth attended school in Brady. She moved to Big Spring in 1959 and lived there until 2000 when she moved to Midland to be close to her family. She was a member of Faith Temple/Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. She had been a member of the Eastern Star.Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Greta Peterson of Tyler; two sisters, Debbie Collins of Sherman and Margie Belvin of Big Spring; four brothers, Thomas Evans of Big Spring, Charles Evans of Denver, Colorado, Leonard Evans of Big Spring, and Herman Evans of Midland; two grandsons, Anthony Peterson of Beaumont and Bryan Peterson of Tyler; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Frankie Mae Evans; one sister, Dorothy Sherman, and two brothers, Roger Evans and Sam Evans.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home of Big Spring.
