Ruth Scudder Bevens, of Midland passed away Monday, September 6, 2004 , after a lengthy battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2004 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Midland, with Dr. Gary Dyer, pastor, officiating. An inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will receive visitors Thursday, September 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the home of David and Bonnie Bevens, 3303 A Moss Ct.She was born September 22, 1941 to the Rev. Russell and Ruth Sewall Scudder in Sayre, Pennsylvania. She was raised and educated in New York, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. She graduated in 1959 as valedictorian from Stockbridge Valley Central School in Munnsville, NY. She continued her education at Roberts Wesleyan College in North Chili (Rochester), NY, where she earned a BS in Comprehensive Science in 1963. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Education in 1964 from the University of Arizona in Tuscon. She furthered her education by receiving her certification as a medical technologist at Tuscon Medical Center. She married Walter Bascom Bevens on July 15, 1967 in Tuscon, AZ. She taught high school math and science , and at some elementary schools, in Texas, Arizona, Kentucky, California and North Carolina. She also worked briefly as a med-tech in Irving, TX. She retired from teaching in 2001; after which, she cared for God's precious babies at First Baptist Church in Midland, TX.She is preceded in death by her aunt Isabelle Bowyer, brother Henry "Hank" Sewall Scudder and his wife Alice, and her parents.She is survived by her loving husband Walter, her precious sons Bill and David and his wife Bonnie all of Midland; her brother David Scudder and wife Barbara of Roxbury, NY; four nephews Kevin Scudder and Andy Scudder of Tuscon, AZ, Joel Scudder of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Larry Scudder of Olathe, KS, and niece, Julie Coons, also of Olathe, KS and their spouses and children; cousins Joe Bowyer, Rachel Paradiso and husband, all of Ohio.Her Christian faith and her gentle and quiet spirit touched many lives and were examples that many looked up to. She had a servant's heart and gave generously and unselfishly of her time to benefit other people, especially her family. The family suggests memorials be made to American Cancer Society, 2304 W.
