Dear Carla and family,I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a kind and gentle lady who found humor in all situations. She filled her home with love and the aroma of her delicious cooking. She enjoyed planning and preparing her special recipes, and so did we! Although there are no words that can truly ease your pain, I pray that your memories will bring you comfort. I love you all! Our family lived beside Mr. & Mrs. Bates for many years when we were children. We could not have asked for better people to be neighbors with. They were so loving and caring, always spoke kindly and tolerated all of us girls playing in their yard and riding our bikes in their driveway. Mrs. Bates always brought us homemade goodies and I cannot remember a time when they did not buy something from the many fundraisers we participated in. What a sweet angel heaven has gained. She is definitely a wonderful part of our childhood memories. Mr. Bates, you are a very special man, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers!!Love, Misty, Brandy and Sandy

Dear Carla, I was so sorry to hear about your mom. She was a lovely lady and I will always remember her as the first person in whom I actually saw a living daily relationship with the Lord. I remember sitting at your counter in Coahoma and listening to her talk about taking the electric bill to Him. Mind blowing! Through the years I returned to that conversation many times as I considered what my own relationship to Him would be. Such a little thing perhaps, but to me it was immense and I will always be so grateful to her. Sadly, we won't be able to be there for her services (travel with Daddy is tricky), but even so we will be remembering your mom and holding you and your family in prayer during this time.

I worked for Mr. and Mrs Bates at the grocery store many years ago. They were two of the best people I ever met. My brother Ricky also worked for them and they were like family to him. He used to deliver groceries in the old white ranchero and he did not even have a license. I know a lot of families in Coahoma including ours that would have had a lot less on the table at times had it not been for Mr. and Mrs. Bates.
