Russell Norris Tidwell, 80, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, August 9, 2007, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating and Rev. Walter McCall, chaplain with Odyssey Hospice, assisting. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The youngest son of Homer Carl and Lillie Ethel Russell Tidwell, Russell was born on April 25, 1927 in DeKalb, Texas. He attended school in DeKalb and entered the Army Air Force in 1945. He was stationed in both Utah and Illinois before going overseas to Guam for 6 months. He was called home because of his Father's illness. He was discharged at Maxwell Field in Alabama when he returned to the United States in 1948. After his Father's death in 1951, he came to Big Spring for a brief period then returned to the DeKalb area until 1954. He then settled in Big Spring and began working for (TESCO) TXU a year later, retiring in 1987. Russell liked bowling, golf and fishing.He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was a 50 year member of Staked Plains Lodge #598, A.F. & A. M. He volunteered with R.S.V.P. and served on the board. In 1970, he met Jean Marie Harrison Newman and they married on March 14th. At this point he became the father of four children, Ralph Newman Jr., Ginny Elizabeth Crawford, Bobbie Lee Fryar and Anita Sue Myers and five grandchildren, Norman Fryar, Dawn Machelle Crawford, Randall Crawford, Kimberly Rene' Fryar and the just born, Lana Kay Crawford.Russell is survived by his wife, Jean Tidwell of Big Spring; one step-son, Ralph Robert Newman Jr. and wife, Catha Darlene of Odessa; two step-daughters, Bobbie Lee Fryar and husband, Melvin of Brownwood and Ginny Elizabeth Crawford of Big Spring; one niece, Angelia Dawn (Maderer) Redman of Wright City, Oklahoma; one nephew, Gary Don Tidwell of Valliant, Oklahoma; two great nephews, Michael Shawn Maderer and Russell Kole Tidwell and one great niece, Kathryn Pearl Tidwell; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, H.
