Funeral services for Ross H. Boykin, 88, of Big Spring will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September 7, 2002, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. David Ring, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. Mr. Boykin died on Monday, September 2, 2002, in his home. He had been in failing health for the last few years. He was born on June 17, 1914 in Sierra Blanca, Texas and had moved to Big Spring in 1929 from Ft. Worth. He graduated from Big Spring High School, and had attended the University of Texas in Austin until he lost his father due to an auto accident. He and his brother, Zollie, came home and assumed their father's business as rig building contractors from 1934-1953. Then they became independent oil operators, doing business as Boykin Brother's Oil Company until Zollie died in 1980. The business then became Ross Boykin Oil Company. Ross met and married the former Louise Hale, from Carrollton, Texas, on August 29, 1938. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He was a member of Staked Plains Masonic Lodge #598, AF & AM, Big Spring Chapter #178 R.A.M., and Big Spring Council #117 R. & S.M. Ross was a 32nd degree Mason, and had received his 50 year Masonic pin several years ago. He was also a member of the Shrine, and the Rotary Club. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and had served on the finance committee. He greatly enjoyed fishing, golf and helping other people. God blessed him with a loving family and many friends. Survivors include his wife, Louise Boykin of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Annette and David Hodnett and Betty and Ronnie Wales all of Big Spring; one grandson, Russell Hodnett of Big Spring; three granddaughters; Angela Solis and husband, Conrad, of Dripping Springs, Stacey Kushaney and husband, Jim, of Hurst, and Valerie Johnson of Pinevill, Louisiana; seven great grandchildren, Teran Nix and Jace Nix of Hurst, Eric and Daniel Kushaney of Flower Mound, Brittany Hodnett of Anacoco, Louisiana and Liana and Miranda Solis of Dripping Springs; one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Valeta Boykin of Mansfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Craig Hodnett; one brother, Zollie Boykin; one sister, Peggy Kitchens; his father, Foote Boykin; and his mother, Bertie Hughes. Pallbearers will be Charlie Pate, John Currie, Paul Shaffer, Bobby Hill, Jim Parks, and Steve Stone. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Pickle, and Floyd Smith. The family suggests memorials to: First United Methodist Church, P. O. Drawer 1229, Big Spring, Texas 79721-1229. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
