In Loving Memory of Rosa Montañez Rivas, 1939 – 2024
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Rosa Montañez Rivas, who was called to the Lord on May 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Marfa, Texas on February 9, 1939. She married Ramon Muñoz Rivas in Midland where they met and celebrated 59 years together. They raised a family grounded in faith and love. She would dote and spoil her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, who were the joy of her life. She cherished every moment spent with them.
Rosa was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister and as a hospital minister administering Holy Communion for those unable to attend Mass due to illness or those with disabilities. She was also a member of the Guadalupans, the Altar Society and a Cursillista member. She lived her faith through her actions, always extending a hand to those in need and embodying the love and compassion of Christ. She was well known for leading Rosary Services for the faithfully departed. Her unwavering devotion was evident in her regular attendance at Our Lady of Guadalupe, where she was an original parishioner and continued to attend for decades.
Rosa was a beacon of wisdom and strength. She was known for her kind spirit, her nurturing presence. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and faith will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends during viewing on Wednesday May 15, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe on May 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM, with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Rivas; daughter Mary Helen; parents, Rito and Felipa Montañez; two brothers, Aberlado and Ismael Montañez; five sisters, Alica Romero, Elia Mendoza, Gloria Estrada, Olga Duarte, and Micaela Abalos.
Rosa is survived by her brother, Orlando Montañez, Sr. and wife Irene of Midland; son, Raymond Rivas, Jr. and wife Maria of San Antonio; daughters, Connie Nunez of Midland; Florence Rocha and husband Michael of Midland; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews who considered her as second mother; as well as various neighborhood kids that gave her the honor of calling her “Mom or Grandma” over the years.
“May the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs receive you at your arrival and lead you to the holy city Jerusalem. May choirs of angels receive you, and with Lazarus, once a poor man, may you have eternal rest.” – In paradisum.
