Ron Plumlee, 82, of Big Spring, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at his residence. Per his request, no services will be held.
Ron was born October 9, 1941 in Weatherford, Texas to William F. and Ethel Stevens Plumlee. He married Donna Sue Sigman (mother of Kerri and Kyle) July 22, 1967. Donna Sue preceded him in death September 14, 1986 due to cancer. He married Judy Jones Everett February 19, 1988 and inherited two more sons, Buddy and Kenny Everett.
Ron graduated from Peaster High School in 1960. He studied at Weatherford College from 1960-1962 and earned an Associates Degree in Mathematics. He then attended Wayland Baptist University from 1962-1965 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics/Physical Education. Ron was a coach/math teacher in Kress, Texas from 1965-1969; Big Spring, Texas from 1969-1975; Principal at Greenwood, Texas from 1975-1976; Superintendent of Ira Schools from 1976-1980; Assistant Superintendent at Joshua, Texas 1980-1983; Assistant Superintendent of Seminole, Texas, 1983-1987 and Assistant Superintendent of Business in Big Spring, Texas from 1987-2001, retiring in 2001. Ron had worked on his Masters and Superintendent Certification at Sul Ross University and Texas Tech University.
Ron served as a member of First Baptist Church of Big Spring as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was a member of the Lions Club. He loved sports, playing golf, music and trips to Ruidoso. “Pappy” followed his grandchildren in all they participated in and found joy in harassing them and their friends.
Ron is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Kerri and Danny Whitehead; son Kyle and Leigh Ann Plumlee; son Buddy and Brooke Everett; and son Kenny Everett. Grandchildren; Samantha, Zach and Kalyn Whitehead, Jack and Libby Everett; Brogan and Brynnlee Plumlee.
Memorials may be made to Relay of Life or a charity of your choice.
