Rodney Everette “Chief” Vick, Jr., 84, of Midland passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church in the Chapel at 3:00pm.Rodney (Chief) was born on September 29, 1931 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Inez Long and Rodney Everette Vick, Sr. He served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. Rodney was a first class fisherman and loved spending time outdoors. Rodney was an avid jogger for 34 years. Chief was an extremely loving man with a wonderful sense of humor. He could bring a smile to anyone’s face. He loved to spend time with and spoil his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “PaPaw”. He was a true family man and because of this he became a little league coach. He was proud to be able to contribute both his time and finances to the advancement of youth sports. He was a wonderful role model to his athletes throughout the years, but also to his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.He is survived by his wife, Shirley Vick; daughter, Carol Ryan and husband Jim; son, Kenneth Bailey and wife Sue; son, Wayne Bailey and wife Lauraine; son, Timothy Vick and wife Robi; brothers, Fred Vick and David Vick; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.He is preceded in death by his parents, Rodney Sr. and Inez Vick.The family would like to express their gratitude towards Dr. Kevin Cook, Dr. David Watkins, and Hospice of Midland.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Rippetoe, Marty Gregory, George Snapp, and David Vick. ,
