Rocky New, 52, of Coahoma, died on Friday, May 21, 2010, in Sterling County. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Sunday, May 23, 2010, at the funeral home.He was born on November 21, 1957 in Big Spring and married Sheri Graham on August 9, 1986 in Odessa.Rocky graduated from Coahoma High School in 1976, attended Angelo State University and had worked as a pumper for many years. He was very involved in his kids athletics and coached their various teams. Rocky served as President of USGA Girls Softball and was named Man of the Year with the Coahoma Lions Club. He was a Baptist.Rocky enjoyed fishing with his kids, never met a stranger and loved telling jokes.Survivors include his wife, Sheri New of Coahoma; his son, Regan New of Coahoma; his daughter, Ashle New of San Marcos; three brothers, Roy New of Big Spring and Steve New and Tommy New both of Coahoma; three sisters, Ann Trawick of Tye, Patsy Burns of Abilene, and Rhonda Quay Baker of Odessa; his in-laws, Bud and Ruth Graham of Big Spring and Linda Beckwith of Mason; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Tommy New; his mother, Willie Grant and his stepfather, Loyd Grant.The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity. I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Rocky. Rocky was a friend of mine in high school. There were several of us who hung out together and ran the roads between Tuscola & Lawn just having fun - he was on them. He was so funny, always kept us laughing. My heartfelt condolences to all the family.

The New 's were our neighbors in Coahoma. We grew up together and had lots of fun ! My sympathy to his family. Sounds like he became a great guy. I hope that your wonderful memories provide comfort to you.

We feel like Rocky was our family and we will miss him everyday. We will keep Sheri,Ashley. Regan and all of his brother and sisters in our prayers. I just know he was a generous and caring man and he will be greatly missed.

Rocky and I were best friends in high school. We played football and basketball together and got in trouble together. We grew up, lived, worked, and played in Lawn, Texas and surrounding towns. Rocky was fun, funny, and a joy to be around. He will be missed.

Sheri, Ashle, Regan- I cannot even imagine the loss that you guys are feeling, just wanted you to know i am thinking of you guys. I have so many wonderful memories with yall, that i will always remember.

I am so sorry for your loss. Rocky was a good guy and will be dearly missed. I went to school with Rocky, and my daughter Tara was in Ashle's class for a few years at Coahoma. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Our daughter was friends with the New's daughter when they were in school at Coahoma. The News are a lovely family. We are very sorry for your loss.

Rocky is a great man, we met him when our daughters played softball, I have not seen Rocky in five years, but he made such an impression on me I still have his phone number on my phone. God bless Rocky's Family, our prayers are with you.

Sheri, Regan and Ashle, I am so heartbroken to hear about Rocky. I can't remember a time that he didn't have a great joke to tell. He definitely kept us all laughing. He was a great husband and dad to the kids. Though we didn't see y'all much after 'growing up' and becoming involved with kids, you're never far from our minds. I have always appreciated the great coaching Rocky did with William and the boys on the teams. He was always so patient and caring. He was a wonderful role model for all the boys, particularly the ones like William without a father in his daily life. We are praying for all of you.
