Robert Walton Haislip, 92, of Stanton, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Stanton with Reverend Charlie Stevens, officiating. Visitation will precede the services in the fellowship hall beginning at 10:00 am.Robert, better known as Bob, was born on April 5, 1923 in Eastland, Texas to Harry and Ruth Haislip. Bob moved to Stanton when he was six years old. He attended kindergarten at the Convent. The rest of his education was in Stanton Public Schools.Bob joined the United States Army Air Corp in 1942, and became a navigator, flying on all three heavy bombers by wars end. Bob enjoyed fishing and gardening. No one loved Stanton High School football more than Bob. He joined the volunteer fire department when the truck was a Model A. He served as a fireman for 35 years, many of those as chief. He also served with the EMS for 14 years.He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Haislip and children, Patricia Wilson and husband Bob, Walt Haislip and wife Jeanne, Sara Parker and husband Danny, and Tommy Haislip and wife Shereata. Bob is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his little sister Sara.The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff of Martin County Hospital and Hospice of Midland.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Martin County Senior Center or Martin County Historical Museum.Arrangements are under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
