Robert Kent Sloan's greatest game began August 17, 1940 in Plainview, TX. He played his last inning May 5, 2017, at the age of 76. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Monday, May 8, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory in Midland. A Celebration of Kent’s Life will be 3:00pm Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Byron Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Born to Bob and Ruth Sloan, Kent was the big brother to his sister's Cissy and Gaye. The family moved to Midland in 1949 where his love of baseball continued to grow. Due to a shoulder injury Kent turned to softball, playing and/or coaching both mens, womens, and later his grandchildren's leagues.Upon graduation from Midland High School in 1958, Kent started both his personal and professional journey by marrying Ruth Louise Dunnan on September 26, 1959 and his banking career at Commercial Bank and Trust. Kent and Ruth were blessed with three children, Susan, Steve, and Sarah. His professional career continued for the next 59 years with stints at Community National Bank, the FDIC, Western National Bank, and ending at West Texas National Bank.Throughout his life, Kent had a great passion for rescuing animals. His greatest rescue came in the form of a 120 pound Rottweiler named Roxy. Known for their walks in the neighborhood and fast food runs for french fries, she was truly part of the family.Kent was preceeded in death by his parents and his siblings Cissy Parish and Gaye Akins. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Ruth Sloan, his daughters Susan Robinson (David), Sarah Abbott (Mike), and his son Steve Sloan and fiance Zoe Lincoln. Granddaughters Danielle Reynolds (Colby) and Kaitlin Robinson and fiance Ryan Magnino. Grandsons Chris and Matt Sloan. And a source of great joy, his future great granddaughter, Sloan Reynolds. Kent will be missed by a multitude of extended family and beloved friends. Pallbearers (or as Kent liked to refer to them, The U-Totem Club) are Mike Hughes, Ronny Haynes, Shane Kail, Pat Scribner, James Tompkins, and Ryan Magnino.Flowers are welcomed or donations can be made to any animal rescue organization or charity of one's choice.,
