Robert Edward Davis

Robert E. Davis, age 99, of Midland, Texas passed away on August 11, 2026.  He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on March 5, 1927 to Borden A. and Ruth Shotts Davis.  He was raised and educated in Fort Worth and graduated from Paschal High School in 1944.

Bob volunteered as an aviation cadet in July 1944 with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II for training as a pilot, bombardier, or navigator.  The Aviation Cadet Program was discontinued prior to his active duty in May 1945 when Germany surrendered.  Instead, he joined the United States Navy serving on the battleships U.S.S. West Virginia and U.S.S. Indiana during 1945 and 1946 in the Pacific.

Bob graduated from Baylor University with a BBA in 1950.  After graduation, he returned to Fort Worth until 1956 when he moved to Midland, TX to begin his career as a Landman for Texaco Inc.  He met Cecelia Adams at First Methodist Church Singles’ Group, and they were married in December 1961 and had two children.

He retired from Texaco in 1991 as a Senior Landman while in Denver, Colorado after 35 years of service, most of which was in the Permian Basin. Following his retirement, Bob and Cecelia returned to Midland where he pursued a lifelong interest in land and livestock with ranching interests in Tarrant County, Texas on land owned by the Davis family originally acquired during the year 1876.

Bob made time to go out for a jog or walk nearly every day.  He & Cecelia traveled all over the U.S., Canada, Europe, and they made one trip to Israel. Bob was an active member of First Methodist Church where he participated in Bible studies, discussions, mission trips, and retreats. With an eye for a good investment, he stayed up to date on stock trends.  And he shared his love of music & poems with family and friends.

During his lifetime, Bob was an active member of many organizations including the Steeple Chase Club, and Cooke-Peavy Masonic Lodge of Fort Worth; The American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Permian Basin Landman’s Association, The Midland Rotary Club, American Quarter Horse Association, Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Hereford Association, Baylor University Alumni Association, First Methodist Church and the Partners Sunday School class.

Bob is survived by his wife Cecelia, son Wesley Davis, daughter Khris O’Grady and son-in-law Tom, grandchildren Jack O’Grady, Darby O’Grady & Kathleen Bolger (Brady).

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 1:30 pm at First Methodist Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Methodist Church and The Midland Rotary Club.
