Robert “Bob” Sidney Dunham, 83, of Midland Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10th, with his family by his side after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Bob was born on July 15, 1941, in Quitaque Texas aka the middle of nowhere, to Volatire Leonard “Buster” and Ruth Dunham. As a child, he tried his Mama’s patience, enjoyed tormenting his brothers, and loved fast cars. He also took pride in his Army service, serving the rank of sergeant — however, he pretended to be a lower rank at times because he couldn’t go out and have a good time as easily. Bob didn’t believe in living an average life. He lived and worked all over the United States. He loved the fresh air and mountains of Colorado, Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches, his Mama’s banana puddin’, Dr. Pepper, and smooth tequila. He was always ready for a poker game, mischief of any kind, laughed inappropriately at every chance, used four-letter words, fixed anything that needed fixin’, and loved his gang of misfits fiercely.
Speaking of misfits, Bob is survived by his brothers Darrell Dunham and Rena of Amarillo, TX, Mickey Dunham and wife Jann of Hobbs NM, Bill Dunham and wife Sherry of Amarillo TX, daughters RuthAnn Hawks of Midland, TX, Jennifer Gott and Husband David of Bryan TX, grandchildren Natalie Farrer and husband Kiefer of Midland, TX, as well as Kaleb Gott and Garrett Gott of Bryan TX, and numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Ruth Dunham, who were probably wrestling to the front of a long line of recipients for him at the Pearly Gates.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the staff at Ashton Medical Lodge in Midland, for their patience and wonderful care of Bob during his difficult fight.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday next year.
Bob would want you to know that if he owes you a shot, and if you can find him in Heaven, he will gladly allow you to buy him another. He will be easy to find: just look for the rowdiest crowd around and he will be right in the middle of it wearing his Harley t-shirt!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
