Robert Allen Steelman, Jr. passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005 following a lengthy illness. A private memorial service is planned at a later date.Bob was born August 19, 1930 in Hattiesburg, MS to Robert Allen Steelman and Gladys Miller Steelman. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1946 and attended Mississippi Southern University before joining the United States Navy, where he was trained as a photographer and as a carrier pilot.On August 30, 1952, Bob married Gloria Geren in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1956, he graduated from UT-Austin with a degree in petroleum engineering. He was an employee of Texaco, Inc. for 21 years before joining American Quasar Petroleum as Operations Manager. He was an independent wellsite consultant until 1995 when ill health forced him to retire.Bob enjoyed woodworking projects and genealogical research. He was an avid quilt maker, often using his engineering skills to design his own quilt patterns. Bob is survived by his wife Gloria; two sons, Scott Allen Steelman of Albuquerque, NM and Kent Browning Steelman of Austin; three brothers, David of Mobile, AL, Cordell of Carriere, MS, and Gary of Morgan City, LA.The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Michael Miller and his staff, and Dr. Nick Schroff, and to the caring staff of Hospice of Midland.
