Robert A. Miranda, 58, of Big Spring, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the Big Spring VA Medical Center after a heroic fight with pancreatic cancer. Rosary services will be held Friday, August 9, 2002 at 7:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2002, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Felix, officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park following Mass. He was born to Mateo and Isabel Miranda on April 29, 1944 in Central, New Mexico. He was a resident of Central until he joined the National Guard in 1962 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1963. He moved to Big Spring in July of 1963 where he was stationed at Webb Air Force Base. He met Lupe Sapata on October 5, 1963 and married her on January 15, 1964. They made their home in Big Spring. He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked for Arco Oil and Gas until 1997 and began to work for the VA Medical Center as a food service worker until his illness. He was president of the Parents Club for two terms with the Immaculate Heart Catholic School. He was a member and secretary of the OCAW Local 4586 Union. He volunteered for 16 years for St. Vincent De Paul. He was preceded in death by his father, Mateo and his brother, Toby Miranda. He is survived by his mom, Isabel Miranda; wife, Lupe, sons, Michael of Dallas and Kurt of Washington State; daughters and sons-in-law, Yvette and Troy Grimes of Roanoke, Texas and Monika and Paul Kennemur of Big Spring; six grandchildren, Miranda, Brian, and Eric Grimes and Quinton, Toby and Kendrik Kennemur. As well as his brothers, Jerry, Abie, Joe and Richard Miranda; sisters, Ramona Miranda, Elise Beltran, Molly Ramirez all of New Mexico and Lydia Reed of Fredericksburg, Texas. Pallbearers will be Celestino Cisneros, Vince Clements, Danny Kennemur, Billy Grimes, Jerry Bates, Douglas Hattenbach, Jesse Brito and Kenny Alfano.Honorary pallbearers are Food Service workers of the VA Medical Center, Alex Sechelski, Henry Mexia and Robert Smith.
