Richard Michael Nagy, 64, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012. A Rosary will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 7:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A service will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel.Richard was born on September 12, 1948 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, the only son to Colonel Ernest Nagy and Julia Jakubowski. He graduated from the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC in 1966. He then attended Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry in 1970. That same year he joined the Army. He later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his Master of Science in Geology, graduating in 1973. He then earned his PhD in Geology from Rice University in 1977. Immediately after earning his doctorate Richard began working for Conoco abroad. While heading geologic exploration in Jakarta, Indonesia he met his future wife of thirty-three years, Linda. The Nagy family re-located to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1984 and then to Midland, Texas in 1991 to continue his work as a Research Geologist. In 1993, Richard left Conoco to found Lizeroux Oil and Gas with his friends and partners. He was a knowledgeable individual, passionate about sharing what he had learned. He enjoyed traveling and seeing the places most people have only read about in history books. He was a kind and generous man who opened his home to the children of friends and extended family; a father figure, always willing to listen and share advice. Survivors include his wife Linda and his three sons and daughter, Thomas, Jeffrey, William and Christina.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
