Richard “Dick” Hagelstein, 89, of Midland, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.Dick was born on July 11, 1929 to Thelma and Max Hagelstein in San Angelo, Texas.Dick grew up in San Angelo, Texas, graduating from high school in 1947. He enlisted in the Army 1949 – 1951, as a Sergeant First Class and member of the Army Band. He then completed his education with a degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. While attending the University he met the love of his life Marge Studer. They lived in several small towns throughout Texas during their marriage. They moved to Midland in 1975 where he worked as District Conservationist for the Department of Agriculture Soil and Water Conservation Service until his retirement in 1995. After retiring he became director of Sibley Nature Center for a number of years. His faith was very important to him and they were long time members of Crestview Baptist Church. For many years he was part of the Crestview Choir and Director of tenth grade Sunday School Class.Dick loved being outdoors doing activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, arrowhead hunting and cave exploring. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sports events.Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marge Hagelstein. He is survived by his sons Rick Hagelstein, and wife Lisa of Midland, Texas, Ron Hagelstein, and wife Sarah of Midland, Texas, and Lee Hagelstein, and wife Terri of Mansfield, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica and Miguel Cardenas of Pflugerville, Texas, Bryce and Megan Hagelstein of Houston, Texas, Coyt Hagelstein of Lubbock, Texas, Adam and Kelsi Hagelstein of Katy, Texas, and Ryan Hagelstein of Stanton, Texas as well as 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Anna Emerson of Las Cruces, New Mexico.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Erythromelalgia Association -Erythromelalgia Association –erythromelalgia.org, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
