Richard "Dick" Bartlett, 81, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, September 4, 2008, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma with Rev. Wendell Ferguson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.He was born on April 30, 1927, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.Dick had lived in Coahoma from 1934 to 1976 and came to Big Spring in 1990. He had worked as a driver at the U. S. Naval Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coahoma for 30+ years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Community Bible Study in San Angelo. Dick served in the United States Army during World War II and was at Dachau Germany (Hitler's first concentration camp) when it was liberated. He was an avid bicyclist and history buff and knew much about U.S. and World History.Survivors include his sister, Frances Bartlett of Big Spring; and special friends, Rae Nell Best of Coahoma and Dene Sheppard of Big Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be John Best, Joshua Best, Jeremiah Best, James Best, Scot Sheppard and David Hoglund. Honorary pallbearer will be Marion Hays.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma, P.O.
