Richard B. Duniven, 72, of Midland, passed away peacefully in his sleep October 10, 2009 at his Oak Creek lakehouse near San Angelo. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, 14, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland at 3pm with Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Richard was born on June 26, 1937 in Amarillo, Texas to Rayford and Kathleen Duniven. He grew up and attended schools in Pampa, Tx. After graduation he served his country in the United States Army. He began his career in Land Surveying with Jimmy Nail & Co. working his way up to the Vice President of Topographic Land Surveyors before going into business for himself in 1977. He created Richard B. Duniven & Company, Inc. and worked as a Professional Land Surveyor until his death. His company is a family business where he and his children worked and served the Texas and New Mexico territories. Richard has many accomplishments in his lifetime, too many to list them all… a few among them are the Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the American Legion, a member of the National Rifle Association. He was the first Professional Land Surveyor to hold a license in 5 different states. He was a member of West Kentucky Baptist Church. Richard will be fondly remembered for his unwavering loyalty to his family and his many, many friends that he had the good fortune to meet along life's pathway. One of the attributes that drew people to him was his keen sense of humor, he always took the time to tell a joke or 2 or 10! Survivors include his wife Nancy of Midland; son Kevin Duniven and wife Tammy of Midland; daughter Candace and husband Carl Hennings of Midland; step-daughter Sherry Cox of Midland; step-daughter Mary and husband Wayne Swinney of Golden, Co.; step-daughter Caron and husband Jack Griffith of Venus, Tx; step-daughter Regina Perry of Midland; step-daughter Nancy and husband Fred Padgett of Andrews,Tx; a sister, Betty Gill of Wimberely, Tx; 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his beloved chihuahua Bandit and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother W.R. Duniven; a sister Patricia Duniven; a step-daughter Stacy Kinsey; a nephew Richard Lawrence Duniven and a niece Angela Kay Tingle.
