Rev. Walter Ladell Driver, 93, of Big Spring, died on Monday, November 17, 2008, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Big Spring with Rev. Jim Wright and Rev. Augustin Ypina, officiating. A visitation will be held following the service. Additional services will be held at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Amarillo with inurnment to follow at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo.He was born October 13, 1915 in Kaufman County, Texas and married Betty Blassingame on August 30, 1975 in Howard County. He was the son of the late T. W. and Ella Irene Driver and grew up in the Lakeview-Petersburg area. He finishied school at Petersburg and received his college work at McMurray College in Abilene. Walter became a Methodist minister in his early years and served numerous churches, among those are Stinnett, Longworth and Blair circuit, McCloud, Oklahoma, Rochester, Ackerly, Kress, Knox City, Roscoe, Plains, Earth, Crowell, Pleasant Valley at Amarillo, Draw and O'Donnell. He retired in 1979 from the O'Donnell church, but returned to minister the Ackerly church. He built the parsonage at Knox City and while in Roscoe he built the sanctuary. He did repair and remodeling in other churches.Walter belonged to the Lions Club, Rotary and the Masonic Lodge.He loved his Lord, Church, family, friends, gardening and teaching Bible studies.He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; two sons, Bobby and Ladell both of Lubbock; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Warren Driver of Sherman; one sister, Doris Booth of Hobbs, New Mexico and one brother-in-law, Norman "Smokey" Stover of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
