Rev. Herbert "Herb" Smith, 80, of Midland, lost his short battle with cancer and went home to the Lord Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel with Rev. Johnny Dowell of Houston, officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the funeral home.He was born on November 6, 1928, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma and married Peggy Tinnin on August 14, 1946 in Borger, Texas.Herbert graduated Borger High School and attended Seminary College in Ft. Worth. Herb was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Wichita Falls and served at Pastor there until his retirement from the ministry. Throughout his ministry, he pastored churches in Texas and New Mexico. He had a beautiful voice and had written several songs. Before Herbert surrendered to preach, he was going to have a career in music. God had another plan for him, as he spent 55 years at the pulpit.Survivors include his wife and love of his life, Peggy Tinnin Smith of Midland; three daughters, Judy Vincent and husband Bob, of Midland, Crystal Kamlowsky and husband Tom, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rhonda Smith of Houston; three grandchildren John Vincent and wife, LaQuitta, Tracy Builta and husband, Tony, and Steve Kamlowsky and wife, Ronnie; 7 great grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Crutchmer of Okmulgee, Oklahoma.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Chester Smith, V.O. Smith, and Sonny Smith; and two sisters, Artie Lee Candioto and Laura Humphries.The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Midland, P.O.
