Rene V. Marquez, 73, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in 1951 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Librado and Ramona Marquez, Rene grew up in Lovington, NM. As a teenager, Rene asked his father for car. His father promptly told him “I can’t afford to buy you a car, but I can show you how to get one.” These wise words & his father’s love and guidance led him to a successful career in the oil industry. Rene, an expert in his field never met a “well” he couldn’t conquer. He mentored many a “oilfield hand.” Rene had a strong will, a sharp & witty mind and the heart of a giant. He became known for the friendships he built wherever he went. Rene a man with a beautiful smile, and a welcoming personality was an early riser who enjoyed his morning & late evening coffee (like his mother), morning tee times and remained forever loyal to the Dallas Cowboys.
Rene loved his family deeply and enjoyed spending time with his siblings and their families, as well as his wife’s siblings and their children. Rene was a man of deep faith and connection, finding spiritual family through his Pastors & life groups at Mid-Cities Community Church. He was a devoted leader and served the body of Christ well. He was often described as someone who never gave up, and he brought leadership and encouragement to every space he entered. His contagious smile and personality drew people to him. He was referred to as a Patriarch to his Life Group members both young and old. Rene impacted hundreds of lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mira Ramirez Marquez and his fur babies, Liberty Blue and Kennedy Rain; his heart chosen family, Emily Crowe, Alex Brito, Chris Alvarado, Anthony Alvarado, Adriana Barron and Stefani Hernandez. Rene is also survived by two children by a previous marriage, Jason Lee Marquez and Renae Nicole Marquez and grandchildren, Nicodemus, Sebastian, Lexandra, Jaden, Isadora and Gillian. Brothers Sam, Art, Frank, JR, and Ralph; sisters Sabina, Janie, Rosa, Sylvia, and Maria; In-Laws, Kurt and Pat Crowe, Joe Freddie Ramirez and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who cherished him.
He was preceded in death by his fur baby, Nikita Diamond, his parents, Librado and Ramona Marquez and in-laws, Larry and Talo Ramirez.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 19th, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A rosary will follow from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a time for sharing memories afterward. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20th, at 10:00 a.m. at Mid-Cities Church, 8700 TX-191, Midland, TX. Interment will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The immediate family is asked to arrive at the church by 9:00 a.m.

Your determination, knowledge, hugs and words of encouragement meant so much to us as we all battled together for Rene’s life. You will forever carry a special place in our hearts. You served him well.
