Janie was born in Big Spring, Texas to Cecil and Imogene Phillips who proceeded her in death. She was the oldest of four children and is survived by her sisters, Joyce Hamlin and Joann Hollis and her brother, John Phillips.
Janie married the love of her life, her “Manly Man”, Rayford Harrison in 1961. He proceeded her in death, and we are certain their reunion on the other side was spectacular! While deeply saddened by her passing there is also great peace in knowing those two are side by side again, right where they belong for theirs was a love that is eternal.
Janie graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech university and never stopped learning. She had a lifelong thirst for knowledge. She was a voracious reader, a gifted writer, a lover of history and a delightful conversationalist. She served faithfully in her church for 54 years and had a strong love for and testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Her talents and interests were many, but her greatest accomplishment was her family. Janie was the mother of seven children, Phillip Harrison, Lila King, Melissa and Dan Vernon, Wesley and Jena Harrison, Heath and Stephanie Harrison, Sarah and Justin Little, and Micah and Heidi Harrison. She is also a grandmother (our beloved NeeNie) to 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Even with a hefty family tree she had bonds formed with others from the heart. Her reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Janie’s is a legacy of love. She taught her children how to love by the way she loved them and their father and anyone else that came into her path. She spoke with kindness and had an easy tenderness about her. Her smile was warm, and her hugs were healing. She was compassionate to her core and was often found cheering on the underdogs in life because she always saw them as champions. To be loved by Janie was a gift.
To her daughters she leaves her kindness and her laughter. To her sons she leaves her generosity and her introspective thinking. To all her grandchildren she leaves her unending love. May her goodness guide us throughout the remainder of our lives. Her family is greatly comforted by the knowledge of a loving Savior and a belief that families can be together forever. We will meet again, joyfully, on the other side.
