He was a best friend of my Dad's growing up in Lamesa and he is one of the most memorable individuals from my youth as was his family. He appears in several of our family photos. He was very beloved by my father his entire life and Sonny made a very strong impression on me as a youngster also with his broad smile, cheerful, enthusiastic, kind, sincere and glowing personality. I know he will be missed on this earth and I am saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace and live life eternal in heaven.

I was a Lamesa jr high science student of Mr. Hollis’s. I mostly cruised through classes, bored, waiting until I could get home and watch TV. He was engaging and really “saw” his students. I came out of my hazy zone during his class. I built a motor, split plenaria, and he was proud of me. Never did I ever consider I would become a scientist/doctor. I now teach on faculty of University of Rochester. He gave me a little spark to think of myself differently, of being capable. I am so sorry to hear of his death.
