Raymond Alfred Defer

Raymond Alfred Defer, 75, of Midland, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.  The family asked that those attending wear Hawaiian shirts to honor Raymond.

Born on November 9, 1949, in Wichita Falls, Texas, Raymond was the proud son of Emmet and Therma Defer. He spent his youthful days in Wichita Falls before marrying the love of his life, Susan Ann Defer, on February 14, 1970. Shortly after tying the knot, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1972, embodying the spirit of duty and service.

In 1980, Raymond made Midland his home, bringing with him a zest for life that made him friends everywhere he went. Known for his sense of humor and love for camping, he had a way of making everyone feel at ease and never met a stranger.

Raymond cherished his family and leaves behind a loving legacy that includes his children, Robert Defer, Rhea’L Defer, and Russell Defer, along with his daughters-in-law, Amber and Laketa. He was a proud grandfather to Alexis Le’Ann, J’Lynn Rhea, Xavier Lamar, Alexandria Nichole, and Joshua Austin. He is also survived by his brother Robert, sister-in-law Cindy, and a host of nieces and nephews, including Matthew Defer, Seth Beer, and Paige Beer Speck.

At the end of the day, Raymond enjoyed his Chivas and a smoke, embracing the simple pleasures of life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his laughter and spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
