Nichols, Ray, 88, of Big Spring, died on Thursday, August 3, 2000, in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 5, 2000, at Trinity Memorial Park, with Rev. Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. He was born on November 20, 1911 in Rose Hill, Illinois and married Marie Duke on August 7, 1935 in Wink, Texas. Mr. Nichols came to Big Spring in 1942. He had worked for Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer for over 30 years and had worked for Trinity Memorial Park for 26 years. He had served as a County Commissioner for Howard County. He was a member of College Baptist Church and a member of the Rotary Club. Survivors include his wife, Marie Nichols of Big Spring; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Jimmie Sundy of Big Spring; three grandchildren, Teresa Marie Sundy of Lubbock, Margie Strickland of Big Spring and Reggie Shaw and three great grandchildren, Colby Nix, Courtney Hecker and Sterling Strickland all of Big Spring. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Claudie Marie Redmon on November 14, 1997 and a grandson, Daniel Wayne Sundy on November 4, 1997. The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
