Ray Kennedy, 69, lifetime resident of Big Spring, passed away, Monday, August 14, 2023. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, August 18, 2023 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Mike Moates, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Ray was born February 10, 1954 in Alexandria, Louisiana to parents Paul Edward Kennedy and Mamie Jean Meador. He moved to Big Spring when he was 13 years old and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1972. He attended Texas A&M and graduated with the Bi-Centennial Class of 1976. He married Barbara Dial August 21, 1981 in Big Spring.
Ray started his career at EP Driver Insurance Agency and came to work at Parks Insurance Agency in 1977. He built his business and career in insurance until his retirement in 2013.
Ray loved playing golf, bowling and singing at church. He also loved riding horseback and working cattle at his ranch that he loved dearly. Ray was a man of many talents, too many to list. Ray loved being with his family and especially his dear wife Barbara.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Dial Kennedy of Big Spring; his son Michael Richardson (Irene) of Big Spring; one daughter: Stefanie Bullard (Kevin) of Midland; his grandchildren: Kenny Richardson, Kristian Richardson, Kameron Richardson and Brock Bullard.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Paul Edward Kennedy and Mamie Jean Emerson and one son Kenny Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Cody Cantu, Kenny Richardson, Kristian Richardson, Kenny McMurtrey, Mark Hyatt, Mike Scarborough and Steve Waggoner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kameron Richardson, Jim Parks and Brock Bullard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Kenny Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Big Spring High School, 707 E. 11th Place, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
