Ramona Shults Schall – wife, mother, daughter, artist and friend to many – died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in Midland, Texas, just short of her 96th birthday.Ramona was born the 15th of April 1920 to William and Marjory Shults in Whittier California. She spent most of her childhood in Oklahoma. Ramona graduated as valedictorian from Seminole High School in 1938 and went on to East Central University in Ada Oklahoma where she graduated with honors. Ramona taught elementary school for several years in Seminole Oklahoma.Ramona married Fritz William Schall on July 14, 1946. Fritz's career with Mobil Oil took them to many locations with frequent moves, sometimes only staying in a location for a few months. They lived in various cities in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Alaska over the years. They shared many adventures and had a wonderful and loving life together. They returned to Midland, which they considered home, in 1977 and Ramona has lived in Midland since.Names and dates can provide an outline of a life, but not its colors or its character. Ramona will be remembered as an artist with needle and thread – her hands were the exit of her spirit. She made exquisite clothing for herself, her daughter and grand-daughter over the years. Several of her stitcheries and wearable art have won awards in local shows. She was a co-founder and member for 20 years of the Banner Committee at First Methodist Church of Midland that made many banners that hang in the church. She also embroidered some of the altar cloths and vestments for the church. In addition to being an accomplished seamstress, Ramona loved painting, gardening and was an excellent baker well known for her pies and cakes.Ramona was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Schall, who passed away in 1977 and her son, Michael Schall, who passed away in 2013.She is survived by her daughter Karla Schall Colle and her husband, Thomas, of Magnolia TX, her granddaughter, Beth Allison Colle of Tomball TX, her daughter-in-law, Galina Schall of Spring TX, her cousin, Betty Barb of Midland TX, and her sister-in-law, Elsie Schall Morris of Seminole OK.The family would like to thank her caregivers, especially Lucy Cotton, Susie Martinez, Edie Pando, and Andrea Laing from Laing's Home Health Care who so lovingly cared for Ramona which allowed her to stay in her own home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations should be made to Hospice of Midland, The Recording Library of West Texas, First United Methodist Church of Midland or a charity of your choice.A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland Texas with interment in Seminole OK at a later date.From a woman’s soul, through a woman’s eye, by a woman’s hand.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
