RALPH GOSSETTRalph Wilson Gossett passed away July 31, 2009, in Midland, Texas, at the age of 92. A graveside service will be held at the Grassland Cemetery on Monday, August 3rd at 1:00 PM.Ralph Wilson Gossett was born on January 4, 1917, on the family farm west of Post, Texas to Ed Lee and Sarah Gossett. He graduated from Post High School and later from Texas Technological College in 1939 with a B.B.A degree in Business Administration. At Texas Tech Ralph met his future wife and the love of his life, Edith Barnett. With the advent of World War II, Ralph joined U. S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corp. On Kentucky Derby Day, May 3, 1942 Ralph and Edith married in Kansas City, Kansas.After the war, Ralph and Edith settled temporarily in Lubbock for several years, and permanently in Big Spring in 1955. Ralph was an insurance agent until his retirement in 2006. Ralph was a past president of the Big Spring Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Ralph loved to read (especially history), jogging, farming and flying. Ralph and Edith had a large circle of friends with whom they loved to travel.Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; his parents, his brothers, Ed Gossett, Hugh Gossett and Dr. James Gossett; and his sisters, Madge Mathias Webb, Kate McFarling and Enid Gossett. He is survived by his children, Greg Gossett and wife, Leslie of San Angelo, Robert Gossett and wife, Diane of Prosper, and Ellen Gossett of Midland; his grandchildren, Stephen Gossett, Sarah Cypert and husband, Wade, Allison Chapman and husband, Matt, Jared Gossett and wife, Leslie, and Jeffrey Gossett; and nieces and nephews, all for whom he cared deeply.There are too many names to mention, but the family gives special thanks to the staffs of Royal Estates in San Angelo and the Manor Park Mabee Healthcare Center in Midland for their loving care of Ralph.In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to First United Methodist Church of Big Spring, your local Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.Funeral Arrangements are under the care of Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
