R. C. Vest, Jr., 83, of Carrollton, formerly of Stanton, died on Sunday, September 2, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Stanton with Rev. David Harp, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Midland. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Gilbreath Funeral Home in Stanton. He was born on February 18, 1924, in Hill County, Texas and married Anita Webb on December 21, 1943 in Midland, Texas. Mr. Vest was a lifelong resident of the West Texas region. He had built a successful career selling farm equipment both in the United States and overseas and had held the patent on a new type of plow hitch. He and Anita loved to travel and had traveled in each of the lower 48 states on business. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially the grandchildren. R.C. was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton, a longtime member of the Stanton Lions Club, and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anita Vest of Carrollton; two daughters, Sherry Cox and Susan Morris and husband, Greg all of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Chris Cox and wife, Ruthye of Midland, Jason Cox and wife, Stacy of Stanton, Michael Morris and Emily Morris both of Carrollton; three great grandchildren, John Cox, Erin Cox, and Hannah Cox all of Midland; one great grandchild due in September; one brother and one sister. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert "Bobby" Compton Vest III; his parents and three sisters. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
