Phyllis “Granny” Cross of Midland passed away on August 8, 2018. Services will be held at Cotton Flat Baptist Church on September 8, 2018 with details to be determined at a later date.Phyllis was born July 19, 1939 in Trenton, Michigan to Harry and Edna Rose. She LOVED her family and had a very special place for all of her grandkids. She enjoyed having them with her and always liked the challenge of beating them at games. She taught her granddaughters how to sew, knit and anything else they wanted to learn from her. She was Granny to all that met her and often told people her name was Granny. Granny had a servant’s heart and met many people’s needs where they needed it most, she never met a stranger and if by chance she did, it wouldn’t be long until they were good friends and she would share with them her Love for the Lord. She wanted everyone to know that He loved them too. She did water aerobics at the COM, where she had a wonderful circle of friends there that enjoyed each other’s company. She had a great love for cats, and her Grand Pups too. She also loved the Midland Community Theater.Granny’s hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafts of many kinds. She played Bingo with her family friends at Brookdale. She loved saving her “funny money” and spending it at the auction they had. She was also passionate about reading. She loved to read books and study her Bible. Her accomplishments were many but if asked, finding the Lord and receiving Salvation thorugh Jesus Christ was her greatest. Second to that, she would say her greatest accomplishments were here marriage to Chuck Cross and their children, Tom Cross and Darbi Jones. She was a wife, mother, Granny and a Great Granny. She was involved in many things such as The Grandparent Program in Midland, served as a volunteer for Girl Scouts of Midland, she was a banker in Alamogordo and Tularosa, New Mexico. She was a member of Cotton Flat Baptist Church and felt the Lord leading her to start a widows group there called Women of Grace, it was not long until it became a fellowship for women and no longer just widows due to the need she and others in the group realized was there and met that need. She loved helping others in many ways. So many more things throughout her life, to sum it up she accomplished a great life being friends to many and serving those she felt led to serve. She was married to Chuck Cross for 46 years. She was sad they didn’t make it to 50 but realized it wasn’t the number of years that matter it was the quality of the marriage that truly made a marriage great. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Edna Rose; husband, Chuck Cross; daughter, Darbi Jones; and sister, Patty Dominic. She is survived by her son, Tom Cross and his wife Diane of Midland; grandchildren, Jacob Cross and wife Erica Cross of Midland, Jami Thompson and husband Justin of Paris, Texas, David Jones and wife Angie of Tallmadge, Ohio, Eric Jones and wife Malory of Milan, Ohio, Racheal Godoy and husband Abner of Midland; 5 great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Lyla Cross, Jace and Julia Thompson, Lydia Jones and two on the way.The family would like to express their gratitude towards Home Hospice for their amazing help keeping her comfortable in her last days.
