Peggy Joyce McCormick Smith, 75 of Stanton, Texas, passed away on July 29, 2023, in Midland, Texas. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2 at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Stanton, Texas with Brother Eddy Elliott officiating. Family visitation will be held at Gilbreath Funeral Home from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday August 1, 2023. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, Anthony Garcia, Matthew Garcia, Joshua Garcia, Timothy Smith, Tucker Smith, and Nathaniel Clanton and Skyler Mulkey.
Peggy Joyce McCormick Smith was born February 1, 1948, in Lamesa, Texas to John Paul McCormick and Marilyn Bunch Carr. Peggy graduated from Stanton High School. She worked many different jobs to include 7-Eleven, for 25 years. Her interaction with customers was impeccable because you would always be greeted with a heartfelt smile and warm hello. Peggy was married to Billy Moffett Smith Sr. on December 3, 1965, for 30 years where they created a family of five Ronnie Smith, Sandra Jimenez, Tommy Smith, Carol Lane and Summer Clanton. Peggy loved to decorate cakes, spend time with her family, and play card games and dominoes.
Peggy was proceeded in death by her father JP McCormick, mother Marilyn Bunch Carr, her brothers Butch and Bobby McCormick, an Aunt Billie McFarland and her ex-husband Bill Smith Sr. and two grandsons Shane Mulkey and Shawn Mulkey.
Peggy is survived by her daughters Sandra Jimenez and husband Jaime of Deming, New Mexico, Carol Lane and husband Jerry of Midland, TX, Summer Clanton and husband Jeramy of Stanton, TX; Sons Ronnie Smith of Stanton, TX and Tommy Smith of San Angelo, TX. Ten grandchildren, three step-grandkids, nine great-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.
Her family would like to express their gratitude towards Interim Healthcare, Midland Memorial Hospital Staff.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
