Peggy Jean Wood (Brown), 93, of Midland, Texas, peacefully passed away in the early morning of Sunday, January 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished memories.
Peggy was born on December 15, 1932, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Charlie Van Brown and Frances Louise Brown. Peggy grew up on her family’s ranch in Callahan County, Texas with her parents and two younger brothers: Dwain Brown and Harold Dean Brown. As the oldest of three children, Peggy had many responsibilities around the ranch and took pride in working hard at every chore, even those that some may have been considered too difficult for a young girl.
After graduating from Cisco High School in 1950, Peggy married the love of her life, George Holmes Wood in Cisco, Texas on July 5, 1953. She faithfully took care of their home and raised three children: Michael Twig Wood, Timothy Wade Wood, and Terri Jean Luck. As the family moved around the country in support of George’s career in the oil business, Peggy had a way of making every new city feel like home. They spent time in Burkburnett, TX; Ranger, TX; Gillette, WY; Casper, WY; Midland, TX; Hays, KS, and eventually retired in San Angelo, Texas.
Peggy found joy in many simple pleasures-painting, country music, football, gardening, dancing, camping in the mountains, and just simply enjoying the peace and quiet while sitting on the front porch of her home. She was especially known for her legendary cooking and her unwavering devotion to her family. Her home was always a place of warmth, comfort, and love, where family gathered and many memories were made.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Holmes Wood; her brother, Dwain Brown; and her parents, Charlie Van Brown and Frances Louise Brown.
Peggy is survived by her brother, Harold Dean Brown, her children: Michael Twig Wood and his wife Cathy, Timothy Wade Wood and his wife Debra, and Terri Jean Luck and her husband Terry. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kristen Linden and her husband John, Justin Dyal and his wife Erica, Shane Wood and his wife Kailey, Wesley Wood and his wife Sydney, Jerod Padgett and his wife Lara, Jeremiah Padgett, and Lauren Padgett and her fiancé Aderrial Henry, as well as numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
