Paul Lee Dowling, 73, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 after an extended illness. A memorial celebration will be held Tuesday, April 21st at First Presbyterian Church at 11:00am.Paul, a long time Midland resident, was born February 4, 1942 to Jean and Paul Dowling Sr. in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Old Dominion University and Birmingham Southern University, where he became member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Paul received a graduate degree in Geology from Kansas State University. His career as a geologist began at Shell Oil Company, and later he went on to build two businesses in the Permian Basin, Dowling Petroleum and PetroGlobal Consultants. His career concluded at Plains All American Pipeline.Paul was an avid collector, lifelong student of history, a lover of books and eBay. Some of his happiest days were spent fishing. He will be remembered for his great height, generosity and sense of humor.He is survived by his wife, Adelle Howard Dowling; children, Cal Dowling of Denver, Jim Dowling and his wife Kim of Midland, Paul Howard and his wife Rachel of Plano, Stephanie Howard Askins and her husband Cooper of Austin; grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Kayleigh, Madison, Kylee, Kaden, Elliot and Forrest.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Home Hospice and the sweet and caring family at Dessert Gardens, especially Caroline and Emmanuel who have become part of our hearts.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to your favorite charity, or contribute to the well -being of someone in your life.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
