Paul L. Shaffer, 76, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Shane Brue, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Parlor of First United Methodist Church from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday.He was born on July 21, 1930, in Big Spring, Texas and married Rosie Parks on August 27, 1952. She preceded in death on January 17, 1996.Paul graduated from Big Spring High School in 1948 and then graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in Architectural Construction. He served in the United States Air Force as an installation engineer at Marrietta, Georgia. Paul then returned to Big Spring and worked for several years for his uncle, Wendell Parks, at the Tate, Bristow and Parks Insurance Company. He then worked for Louis Gene Thompson Engineering Company, A. P. Kasch Construction, Kasch Brothers, Inc. and at Oscar Rose Construction in San Angelo. He then returned to Big Spring and formed his own company, Chaparral Contractors, Inc. in 1974, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2001.He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he taught the Men's Bible Class for many years. He was also a member and past president of the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Big Spring Rotary Club.Survivors include two sons, Bob Shaffer and wife, Delores Sheppard of Big Spring and Pete Shaffer and wife, Darilynn, of Arlington; five grandchildren, Stephanie Shaffer, Amy Shaffer, Jeffrey Shaffer, Aaron Shaffer and Sydni Shaffer; one sister, Billie Frances Carr of Big Spring; one brother, James Shaffer of Oak Ridge, Tennesee; a brother-in-law, Jim Parks and wife, Pat, of Big Spring; five nephews, Jim Parks, Joe McNamara, David Shaffer, Martin Shaffer and James Shaffer; and two nieces, Brenda Shaffer and Cathy "CeCe" Werner. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lenore Shaffer; a niece, Stacey Parks; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Oberia Parks.The family suggests memorials to the First United Methosist Church, 400 Scurry, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
