Paul H. Allen, 70, of Coahoma, died on Sunday, December 7, 2003, in the Hospice House of Odessa. During this tough battle with cancer, he remained himself until the very end with his sense of humor and concern for others. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring, with Rev. Elwin Collum, pastor of First Baptist Church of Coahoma, officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.Mr. Allen was born on May 18, 1933, in Atlee, Oklahoma and married Virginia Thompson on September 15, 1956 in Marietta, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on November 24, 2003.Paul was born and raised on a farm in Oklahoma. He and his late wife, Virginia, came to Howard County in 1957 after marrying. Mr. Allen worked at Cosden Oil and Chemical Refinery from 1959 to 1991. He served as Howard County Commissioner from 1979 to 1991. He also farmed and ranched for all these years and continued after he retired from Cosden. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Coahoma. Paul had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he had previously been a member of the Lions Club, had served as an adult leader of 4-H for many years, and had been awarded the Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1973. Survivors include one daughter & son-in-law, Paula & Robert Cox of Ft. Worth; a grandson, Bryan Cox and a granddaughter, Amy Cox both of Ft. Worth; one brother & sister-in-law, Wilton & Almeda Allen of Marietta, Oklahoma; one sister & brother-in-law, Vida & Gene Robertson of Baird; a brother-in-law, Clarence Wagner; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Vinson, both of Marietta, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his mother and father, Louise and John Allen, one brother, Bill Allen and one sister, Marcena Wagner.A heart felt thank you to Home Hospice for the special care provided; Comfort Keepers for always being there when needed; and friends and family members for their love and support.The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Home Hospice, 600 Gregg St., Big Spring, Texas 79720 or to a favorite charity.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
