Paul E. Payne, RN, 68, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, February 23, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Tony Conger, pastor of Westview Church of God in Odessa and Rev. Eugene Ballard, pastor of College Park Church of God in Big Spring, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. He was born on June 1, 1934 in Washington, D. C. He married Marjorie Gilmore in Granville, North Dakota and she preceded him in death on May 11, 1996. He then married Ruby Weatherby on June 15, 2001 in Big Spring. Paul served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, retiring as a Tech Sergeant on March 31, 1975. He worked as a registered nurse at Hall-Bennett Hospital from 1983 to 1989 and then worked at Scenic Mountain Medical Center until retiring on September 18, 2000. Paul was loved by all who met him and he loved jokes and passing out candy. His purpose in life was caring for others. He was a member of College Park Church of God. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Payne of Big Spring; two step-sons, David Payne of Phoenix, Arizona and Sherman Mosely of Big Spring; two brothers, James L. Payne and George Payne both of Maryland; and four sisters, Frances Sabatini, Elizabeth Costello, Mary Scoor and Dorothy Bradley all of Maryland. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Deborah Templeton and by a brother, Robert Payne. The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
