Paul R. Chappell, 90, of Oklahoma, formerly of Big Spring, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, in Choctaw, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 27, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel Big Spring with Rev. Jerry Kolb, and Rev. Darrell Hendrickson, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park Big Spring. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.He was born on October 2, 1916, in Arcadia, Oklahoma and married Virginia Stage on August 25, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on November 18, 2005.Paul served in the United States Air Force during World War II and in Japan after the war, as a Sergeant. He attended Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana and received a Bachelor's Degree in Theology. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Trinity University in San Antonio and a Masters of Education Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He taught American History at Runnels Junior High School, retiring after 29 years. He was a member of First Church of God. Paul devoted his life to Christian and music ministry.Survivors include two sons, Melvin Chappell and wife, Marilyn, of Houston, and Sam Chappell of Mobile, Alabama; one daughter, Jennie Valtinson and husband, Daral of Choctaw, Oklahoma; one brother, Romaine Chappell of Columbia, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Nathan Good, Aaron Valtinson, Gary Valtinson, Adriana Valtinson, Jason Chappell, Angela Chappell, Joey Chappell, Tiffany Chappell, and Mason Chappell; and one great grandson, Beckham Chappell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Vernon E. Chappell.The family suggests memorials to a charity of choice.
