PAUL HENRY BRIGGSPaul Briggs, 73, passed away in Midland, Texas on December 11, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 13th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Midland at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2009 with the Reverend Wayman Swopes of Greenwood Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Paul was born in Gladewater, Texas, the 10th of 13 children. He graduated from Union Grove High School in 1954 and attended Texas A&M University. He met and married his wife of 52 years, Mary, in 1957. They raised their family in Stanton, South Texas, and Midland. Paul was a lover of sports, especially the game of golf, which he played well. He worked as a consultant in the oilfield until the time he became ill.His parents and five brothers preceded him in death.Paul is survived by his wife Mary, one son, Marc Briggs and his wife Carol of Midland; three daughters, Fawn Briggs and friend David Dillard of Austin, Texas, Tami Graham and her husband Bruce of Greenwood, and Shana Pitts and her husband Dennis of Midland. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Russell Briggs of Austin, Ryan Briggs of Terlingua, Rebecca Briggs of Abilene, Reagan Groom and her husband Caleb of San Antonio, Justin Graham of Midland, and Colter and Cash Pitts of Midland. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Joshua Groom of San Antonio. In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Harold Briggs and his wife Wilma of Natchez, Mississippi, Roy Briggs and wife Karen of Dallas, Jerry Briggs and wife Patti of Colorado City, and J.D. Baugus of Tomball. Also surviving him are his sisters Yvonne McMinn of Gladewater, Doris Williams and husband O. W. of Lufkin, Betty Starks and husband James of Bay City, Mattie Ruth Rogers and husband C. W. of Shreveport, LA, and sister-in-law Rose Briggs of White Oak, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland for their loving care; especially Daphine, Rachel, Donna, and the in-patient unit nurses Tammy, Melissa, and Sheila.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Midland, PO Box 2621, Midland, Texas 79702 or to the charity of your choice.Pallbearers will be Gary Henson, Brad Hull, Bud Glaspie, Kevin Glaspie, Adolf Garza and Ben Bretz.
