Patsy Rhea Woods of Midland, Texas passed from this life on Thursday, June 11th, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.
Patsy was born at her parent’s home in Lone Camp, Texas on January 11, 1935, to Cleo and Ruth Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Corky Rhea in June of 2009, a younger brother Boyd Lindal Brown, and a beloved younger sister, Becky Ortiz.
After growing up on the family farm, Patsy met George “Corky” Rhea, and they married on December 6, 1952. Traveling with Corky through the oilfields of New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle and Permian Basin, they built a life and a family before finally settling in Midland, Texas in 1966. A lifetime member of the Church of Christ, Patsy was a faithful attendant at the Fairmont Park Church of Christ. Eventually health reasons required her to attend church virtually through Fairmont’s online services. Now we know why God invented the internet. She told Him to.
In the summer of 2013, Patsy met a new friend from Michigan, Larry Charles Woods and they married on October 12, 2013. Larry was a faithful, kind and constant companion and husband until her death. God could not have sent a more loving companion for her final time.
Patsy leaves behind her husband of 12 years, Larry; her four children, son Darrell Rhea and his wife Sharon of Abilene, Texas; daughters D’Anne McNaughton and husband Robert of Midland; Denise Malm and husband Russell of Midland; and Dawn McClung and husband Sam of Glen Rose, Texas. Patsy was blessed with six grandchildren, Dusty Rhea and wife Ashley, Kiah Rhea-Kozina and husband Josh, Cody Wilcox, Will Malm and wife Callie, Elizabeth Weaver and husband Blake, and Emily Pipkin and husband Phillip. Her house is filled with pictures of great-children Cannon, Coleman and Casen Rhea, Aurora and Eli Kozina, Bristol and Axell Weaver, and Samuel Pipkin. Patsy is also survived by her sister Becky’s beloved children, Tonya Eckert and husband Ron of Gardendale, Texas; Susanne Capehart and husband Shawn of Navarro, Texas; James Ortiz and wife Katie of Ruby, Alaska; and John Mark Ortiz of Edmond, Oklahoma; and their families.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Hospice of Midland, especially Amanda, Tracy, Bethany and Adriana, and countless friends and family who lovingly gave their thoughts, prayers and support.
