Patrick Eugene Toolen was born on March 10, 1949 in Portland, Oregon to Eugene & Ila Toolen. Raised by Vincent & Marcella Toolen in St Louis Missouri after the tragic death of his mother when he was 3 years of age. Patrick graduated from Normandy High school in St Louis Missouri in 1967.
Patrick met Peggy Annette Crowe at a Red Lobster restaurant in South Houston, TX in 1983, where they both worked. They were married on September 25,1984.
He was the loving father to Christina Marie, and Melanie Lynnette and Grandpa to Seth Ryan Montgomery, Marley Jade Montgomery and Morrison Len Montgomery.
Patrick’s hobbies were driving and building race cars ( He always had a need for speed!) He loved telling the story of building a soap box derby car and riding It down a big hill when he was a kid, which ended in a crash and some stitches. He built 2 different stock cars in the 90s and raced them at a local race track and won a couple of trophies. Other hobbies were watching his favorite NASCAR drivers win, watching the Houston Astros and Midland Rockhounds win games, dancing with Peggy (his favorite dance was the jitterbug) and grilling (He would even stand in the snow in below zero temps to fix you a great BBQ’s meal)
Pat easily made friends wherever he went. Was always willing and able to help people fix their cars, and help fix or build whatever needed fixed or built.
Pat had several jobs throughout his life but his favorites were his job at Davis Racing and when he drove a truck for Illmore Engineering in Michigan, delivering engines to Indy car teams. He always came home with exciting stories of meeting race car drivers.
Patrick attended several churches in his life but he finally truly gave his life to the Lord in December of 2019 while in the hospital when became a true devout Christian. He started streaming Odessa Christian Faith Center’s services in January of 2020, became a member of the church in March. He attended church as faithfully as he physically could. He loved OCFC and and respected and trusted pastor Don Caywood. He would be thrilled to have memorial donations made in his name toward the Legacy Building Fund of Odessa Christian Faith Center at 9000 Andrews Highway, Odessa, TX.
Patrick is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 37 years, Peggy Toolen, children, Christina Montgomery, Melanie Curcio, grandchildren, Seth Montgomery, Marley Montgomery, Morrison Montgomery, sister Joan Sauter, brothers Vincent Toolen and Timothy Toolen.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards all the therapists who from the first stroke were doing their best to help him become him independent again, Hospital staff who treated Pat with respect and kindness as they tried to help him get well, supportive friends and family who always prayed for health and healing.
