Patricia Suzann Eastup died Wednesday, August 30, in a local hospital. She was born in Olney, Texas to Addie and Claud Harrison on June 5, 1930.Pat graduated from Haskell High School in 1947 and North Texas State College (now University of North Texas) in 1951. After graduation she came to Midland to begin a teaching career. She taught at San Jacinto Jr. High until 1953. In August of that year, she married J.W. "Pete" Eastup. They were married in Haskell, Texas and at that time lived in Amarillo. Pat taught school one year in Amarillo and then took some years off to raise their son. Later she resumed her teaching career in Perryton, Texas. She taught at Perryton Jr. High for 16 years.The Eastups returned to Midland in 1975 and Pat had the opportunity to begin another career. She worked for Midland County Elections Administrations as absentee clerk in 1977 and became a full-time clerk n 1986. In 1994, she was appointed Midland County Elections Administrator and retired in 2001. Pat was the first recipient of the League of Woman Voters Making Democracy Work award. Along with the award, the mayor of Midland at that time, Robert E. Burns, declare April 21, 1998, as Pat Eastup day. She was also president of the Texas Association of Elections Administrators.Pat was a member of Midland's First Presbyterian Church and Midland County Republican Women's Club. She was also a member and past president of the Contemporary Study Club. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Evelyn Mercer, she is survived by her husband, J.W. Eastup of Midland, son, Jim Eastup and grandson, J.W. Eastup, III of Reno, Nevada, a sister, Ann Tilley of Odessa, several neices and a nephew, and many, many friends to whom she brought great joy.A memorial service and reception will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Tuesday, September 5 at 10:00 AM with Reverend Steve Schorr, presiding.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
