Ann Key Coe died peacefully Sunday, September 3rd in the Midland Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit after a brief illness.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on WEdnesday, September 6, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland.Ann was born on December 30, 1934 to Newton and Margaret Key in Houston, Texas. She was raised and attended secondary school in McCamey, Texas. She did undergraduate work at Texas Tech and Sul Ross Universities. She had and enjoyed several different careers including owning Colonial Flower Shop In McCamey, worked for Baker Packer, UTPB and Ken Taft Architects. She retired from Odessa College in 2001.She married Ed Compton of Big Lake, Texas in 1954 and they had three children before their divorce in 1976. As a single parent holding two or three jobs at a time, she subsequently helped all three obtain advanced degrees at various colleges, universities and dental school. Other marriages were childless.She was predeceased by her parents, Newt and Margaret Key, and a former husband Warren Laney, one niece and a nephew. Survivors include two sons, Dr. James Edward Compton and wife Robin of Midland, Steven Key Compton and wife Caroline of Houston, daughter Lou Beth McCarthy of Midland, sister Peggy Key Haas of Granberry Texas, three grandchildren: Christopher Ford Compton of Midland, Katharine Elizabeth Compton and Campbell Bennett Compton of Houston, her companion and partner for the past five years, George Odom, a high school classmate at McCamey High School,a nephew, and hundreds of dear friends throughout West Texas and New Mexico.In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given to Hospice of Midland,P.O.
