Pat E. Whitaker, 74, of Midland, Texas, passed away after a short battle with cancer on June 25, 2025. A visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at the Branch at npw. The service will be at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Midland with reception following. The burial service will be on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Barstow Cemetery in Barstow, Texas.

Pat was born on June 17, 1951 (Father’s Day) in Pecos, Texas to V.E. (Pat) and Melba Whitaker. He graduated from Barstow High School in 1969. Pat married the love of his life, Barbara Hanlon, on January 24, 1976 at First Methodist Church in Pecos, Texas.

Pat worked loyally at Buckeye Inc. his entire career as Operations Manager. He recently reached 45 years with the beloved company where his coworkers became family.

Pat was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, Papa, and friend. He loved attending ball games, band concerts and anything else his children and grandchildren were involved in. His loving nature was most evident around children. Pat became a Papa to all children that knew him, not just his own.

Besides spending time with his family and work, Pat was an excellent hunter and bow hunter. He enjoyed many hunts alongside his best-mate, the late Michael Locker. After Michael’s passing, Pat picked up golf as he was adamant he would never hunt again without Locker at his side. He became an avid golfer and made several new friends on the golf course.

Pat will be remembered most for his loving and authentic personality; always gentle, wise and understanding of others. Pat had an amazing ability to make others feel seen, loved and understood.

Pat is survived by his wife Barbara, their three children, daughter Amy Lynne Terry and husband Bobby, son Matt Whitaker and wife Candace, and son Shannon Whitaker and wife Amy, and nine grandchildren Realyn Meza, Ava Whitaker, Bobby Terry Jr. (known to his grandpa as Poncho), Gavin Whitaker, Livia Whitaker, Devyn Whitaker, Westin Whitaker, William Whitaker, and Callahan Whitaker; brother Larry Wilkins and wife Cissy, sister Darlene Wilkins; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Pat is preceded in death by his parents V.E. (Pat) and Melba Whitaker, brothers George Whitaker, Woody Whitaker, and sister Audie Lynne Whitaker, and Rudy, his devoted work dog/sidekick.

The family appreciates the care given to Pat by Midland Memorial Hospital staff, M.D. Anderson Hospital staff, Hospice Care as well as the love, prayers, and support of his Buckeye co-workers and many friends.

Pat I was so Blessed to be your wife for 49 years. You were such an Amazing husband, father, friend, and Buckeye employee. You will be in my heart forever. I LOVE YOU❤️❤️❤️

My first recollection of Pat was that he was looking for someone to provide medical services to him who really cared, and after just a few minutes he told me "I think you will do!" He reminded me of John Wayne when he said that, and we both laughed and struck up a friendship that was really special. He will be sorely missed by all he worked with and all those he included in his work family or just everyone he considered family! My staff always made room in our schedule for Mr. Pat! Personally, I feel better now knowing that he is up there watching over all of us!

Barbara, Amy, Matt, Shannon, dad, and Dar, hugs and prayers from Shannon and I. I have so many good memories of spending time in Barstow when uncle pat and aunt Audie were at granny and grandpas. He is a wonderful uncle who loved to rib and harass us kids, but would give the shirt off his back or defend his loved ones at any cost. He was a superhero to me when I was young, larger than life!!! Our interactions had grown less frequent over the years, but our last visit at Denny’s in Corsicana is one we are so thankful we could be a part of!! We could see pats pain at the time, but as was his nature, he showed his strength and grace as we reminisced about good memories and had a good visit. We love you Pat!!!

Baby Brother, I remember so well the day Daddy came home and told us he had a great Father’s Day present. At first I was disappointed because I wanted a sister, not another brother. But when they brought you home, I was smitten. I’m still smitten. The next year we got a sister- Audie Lynne. The two of you were inseparable. You were such a good, loving, caring, supportive, son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, uncle, cousin, and friend. You fought hard to stay but you were wanted in Heaven. My heart is shattered. You have left an unfillable hole in our family. I’ll see you soon. Love you more.

I went to work for Buckeye in 1981. I appreciated them so much Michael Locker & Debra Amick to have hired me because I had no experience. Over the years they became such good friends and we were like family. Pat was one of them. He was like a Brother to me. He was the kindest man with the biggest heart. Always looked at the bright side of everything & everyone. He & his family have always been very special to me. I will miss Pat but will cherish a lot of years of good memories working with him. I started working for Pat July 9, 2008, and discovered we were born on the same day, same year, just 6 hours apart; since then, we became fast friends, almost like family, and our relationship grew stronger and stronger as the years went by; now that he’s gone to be with our Lord, I feel an emptiness, but also feel his presence inside me, he was an inspiration to me and will be the rest of my days, I loved him like a brother!

I am going to miss you Little Pat! You left me a heart filled with love and pride to be your brother. My thoughts will always be filled with the wonderful memories of our times together and constant ribbing and laughter. The most memorable was the letter from a certain magazine that you had mailed to me and my return gift delivered to your driveway. I will never forget when you were born and the day mom and dad brought you home from the hospital in a Pecos sand storm. I also remember when you won the “Prince of Pecos” contest plus all of the days working with you on your Little League baseball team. My heart is hurting but I know you are in place of peace now. I love you hermano!
