Ottilie S. DammOttilie Spomer Damm passed away in Midland, Texas on Thursday, October 18, 2012, at age 97. She was born to John and Elisabeth Spomer on June 16, 1915 in Lincoln, Nebraska.The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the funeral home. Services for Ottilie will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Midland, Texas on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11:00 am with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park following.Ottilie married J. Peter Damm on November 23, 1947 in Lincoln. They had known each other all their lives not knowing when they first met. To this marriage a son, Gerald E. Damm was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 1, 1948, and a daughter, Norma E. Damm on November 17, 1953 in Tyler, Texas. The family lived in Shreveport, Louisiana from 1954 until moving to Midland, Texas in 1970.Ottilie, known as Tillie to most, life is best characterized by her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and love of her family. She attended Lutheran parochial schools, which was the foundation of her education before graduating from Lincoln High School. Ottilie was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, with her last membership at Grace Lutheran Church in Midland since 1970. During her life she was active as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, Lutheran Womens Missionary League officer and member, Altar Guild chair and member, Quilters, and Graceful Seniors Bible Study. Ottilie began working in the family restaurant at a time when she was old enough to make the bank deposits before reaching her teens. After graduating from high school she worked as a bookkeeper at several Lincoln department stores before becoming one of the first women bank tellers in Lincoln.Ottilie was preceded in death by Pete in 1995. She is survived by her son Jerry Damm in Midland, Texas, her daughter Norma Mukherjee of Metairie, Louisiana, and grandchildren Neal Mukherjee and his wife Janna of Tomball, Texas and Jay Mukherjee of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by sisters Lydia Spomer of Lincoln, Nebraska, Norma Johnson and husband Wendell of Richland, Washington, and brother Roland Spomer and with Sharon of Tuscola, Illinois, and a host of nephews, nieces, and their families.The family wishes to offer their sincere appreciation for the wonderful and compassionate caregivers at Hospice of Midland and include Melissa, Movita, Lindsey, Terri, Jesus, Pat, Yolanda and Harriet. Also, associated with Hospice of Midland, Christine Beebe, Harriet, Katie, and Vicki Jay. The family is also appreciative of the staff and friends Ottilie made at Saddleridge Lodge for their friendship and care during the last months. And a very special thank you to Dr. Michael Miller. And last, but not least, our gratitude to Reverend Robert Pase of Grace Lutheran Church for ministering to Ottilies spiritual needs for the last twelve years of her life.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church of Midland, Texas, Hospice of Midland, or Emeritus at Saddleridge Lodge in Midland, or charity of your choice in memory of Ottilie.,
